DJing for DiscOasis, the Glittery Roller-Skating, Art & Music Paradise

One word: DiscOasis.

That’s right- I DJ’d a set at DiscOasis. Not only was it one of the best times I’ve had DJing, it was one of the most fascinating events I’ve ever been to.

DiscOasis is many things, but at its core it is a roller-disco summer concert series with music festival vibes. Hosted by Constellation Immersive at the South Coast Botanical Garden in LA County, DiscOasis brings art, music, roller skating, dancing, light shows, food trucks, live performance, and nature together to create an atmosphere like nothing I’ve ever experienced. At the risk of sounding cliche, there just aren’t enough words to really capture the essence of DiscOasis.

I was thrilled to be invited. Any DJ in Los Angeles would die for the chance to play a set at DiscOasis, and this female DJ made the lineup. Where else in the world can you DJ for a crowd of shiny, vintage-wearing, disco-loving roller skaters while taking in art installations and playing retro lawn and arcade games? No where. And don’t let all the disco glitter distract you from the music, either. DiscOasis was custom-curated by the Groovemaster himself, Nile Rodgers.

If you’ve never heard of Nile Rodgers (or you’ve been living under a rock) he’s the funk mastermind that’s responsible for cult classic disco jams like “Good Times,” “Le Freak,” and “Get Lucky” The man is a disco genius, so you know his curated DJ lineup has to be disco gold- I mean, I was on the bill so you know he knows what he’s doing! On another note, Nile Rodgers’s involvement with DiscOasis supports his non-profit organization We Are Family, which works to promote and inspire cultural diversity. I’m proud to say there was no shortage of diversity at DiscOasis.

My DiscOasis experience allowed me to see some incredible and totally off-the-wall art and performances, eat some amazing food, meet some phenomenal people, play the funky music that I love for a beautiful crowd of disco unicorns, and dance and skate till I thought my legs would fall off. It was a night I’ll never forget!

But DiscOasis isn’t just a one-night engagement. One of the best things about DiscOasis is that it’s a summer series. You can experience this sonic jungle throughout the summer on Tuesday through Sunday nights. This year’s DiscOasis may be nearing its end, but I’ll be reliving my DiscOasis set in my mind forever.

DJing DiscOasis was a sensational adventure. It was truly my pleasure to have been included. Thanks for having me, DiscOasis. I hope we meet again!
