Amazon's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Private Screening Afterparty

One of my favorite things about being a special event DJ and premiere event DJ is the one-of-a-kind experiences I have the opportunity to participate in. This was especially true on August 31 when I DJd an afterparty following a private screening of Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series. 

The Lord of the Rings empire has been building its fandom since the first book was written in 1954 and saw a revival when the first film in the trilogy was released in 2001. Since then, The Lord of the Rings, as well as The Hobbit series, has reached cult classic status, amassing a following of epic proportions. Amazon has now cashed in on that popularity with “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series. In fact, this premiere is “said to have attracted over 25 million viewers around the world… becoming the nuggets premiere in the history of its Prime Video Service,” according to a September Gizmodo article.

Guests from the Amazon Content Creator Community were treated to an exclusive viewing of the series’ first two episodes, then swept into a fantastical scene in The Oaks Room at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu for the afterparty. Natural elements like stone waterfalls, lush greenery, and a pond paired with a wooden bridge and romantic dripping twinkle lights brought the show’s magical Middle Earth concept to life. And, of course, the musical vibe had to match the aesthetic. To accomplish this, I began the evening with the LOTR instrumental soundtrack as guests entered the room, then carefully transitioned to an upscale and eclectic curated playlist that included lounge music, world music, downtempo music, house music, and electronic music. Tracks like Thievery Corporation’s “Un Simple Histoire,” Cut Chemist’s “The Garden,” Finnebassen’s “Bella,” and ODESZA’s “Behind the Sun” were excellent additions to my setlist for the evening, as they fit the ambiance and provided a range of cadence for such an eccentric crowd. This night was certainly one to remember.

It was such a thrill to be an Amazon DJ for such an enchanting and cinematically prestigious event. As a representative for Prism DJs, I am always honored to provide the entertainment and contribute to the enjoyment of guests, especially at a premiere of this magnitude.
