Disney+ Hulu’s Goosebumps Special Screening
Fight and fanfare were in the air on October 22 as I celebrated Spooky Season from behind the booth as the premiere event DJ for a special screening of the new Disney+ and Hulu “Goosebumps” Series.
If you grew up in the ‘90s, chances are you’re familiar with at least one spine-chilling tale from RL Stine’s classic Goosebumps collection. Those cover images and the infamous Goosebumps font are quintessential millennial core memories. And thanks to a very welcome resurgence of all things ‘90s, Gen Z can now also have their brain chemistry altered by the “Goosebumps” algorithm.
The Disney+ and Hulu “Goosebumps” revival follows a group of teenagers on an unnerving quest for answers to the decades-old mysterious death of Harold Biddle. As they uncover the truth about the past, they unlock the sinister secrets surrounding the tragic accident, including their parents’ part in the plot.
To celebrate the release of this eerie series, Little Cinema produced an immersive experience at the legendary Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where over 1500 guests viewed a special screening of the show’s first two episodes. This event left nothing to the imagination, as fans were treated to a red carpet, custom seating pods, “Goosebumps” swag, themed snacks and drinks, and, of course, yours truly, DJ Tessa, as the live Los Angeles DJ. I even had a special assistant from the cast for the night — Slappy the puppet.
Because of “Goosebumps’” ‘90s roots and the immersive concept of the event, it was important to me to keep the playlist on theme and authentic. I curated a mix of classic 90s hits and house party tunes, 90s alternative music, and current bops. And what would a “Goosebumps” blowout be without some Halloween music sprinkled in?
Party guests of all ages certainly had some favorite tracks throughout the night, and they also had a blast making their own song requests. Crowd favorites by far were songs like “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Denis First Remix) by Nirvana, and “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell. I could tell they were really jiving with the theme, and their special requests were also very on-brand with the vibe of the night. Songs like “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden, “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish were all great additions to my set.
I’d also like to give an honorable mention to two of the night’s definitive tracks — “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers and “HVME” Goosebumps Remix by Travis Scott. The “HVME” Goosebumps Remix is the show’s exclusive anthem and totally sets the mood for each episode, and “500 Miles” is the feature song of the scene for Justin Long’s notorious dance moment.
This special screening event for the new “Goosebumps” series was the perfect way to kick off Spooky Season. Thank you so much to Disney+ and Hulu, Little Cinema, and Cinespia for allowing me to be part of such a ghoulishly glamorous night.
