Hulu Interior Chinatown Premiere Afterparty

I had the incredible honor of DJing the premiere afterparty for Hulu’s Interior Chinatown! This groundbreaking series, inspired by Charles Yu’s award-winning novel, explores themes of culture, crime, and identity through the journey of a struggling actor, portrayed by Jimmy O. Yang.

The event brought together the show’s talented cast and crew along with Asian Pacific Islander (API) artists and creators. As a DJ of half-Chinese descent, I was thrilled to contribute to this celebration, showcasing music that honored both the event’s cultural significance and the creative energy of the show.

A Curated Soundtrack for a Celebratory Night

For this special occasion, I crafted a playlist that seamlessly blended current hits, golden-era hip-hop, and tracks from API artists with a sprinkle of Cantopop. Music has the power to tell stories, and this selection was designed to highlight the vibrant and diverse voices celebrated in Interior Chinatown.

One of my favorite aspects of DJing themed events is embracing the atmosphere through style. For this premiere, I wore a Qipao-inspired dress paired with a jade necklace and bracelet gifted to me by my parents. Dressing the part added an extra layer of connection to the event’s cultural roots and made the night even more memorable.
